Tokyo, the capital of Japan, holds an eclectic mix the modern and the classical – seen in the juxtaposition of brightly lit high-rises with ancient temples. An exciting city and nightlife scene make Tokyo notable, but equally impressive is the strong presence of Japanese culture to be found.

Day One:

  • Round trip shared transfer shuttle from Narita or Haneda Airport to hotel.

Round-Trip airport transfer from Narita or Haneda Airpot to Hotel Monterey Hanzomon and 2 PM check-in to hotel.

  • Tokyo’s Upmarket District & Explore Ginza walking tour at 4 PM.

Discover Ginza on a 2 hour tour through the eyes of a local on a fully customizable tour of one of Tokyo’s most interesting areas.

Stroll the Ginza district and uncover the heart of the city’s most popular place for entertainment, shops and flashing lights. Start with a walk through the Chūō district, closed to vehicles at the weekend and sometimes home to small street concerts. Go to Tsukiji Market and marvel at the organized chaos of the legendary fish market; or get involved if you are feeling brave! If you are traveling with kids, or just young at heart, and fancy exploring one of Japan’s most famous toy stores, go to the Hakuhinkan Toy Park and discover giant stuffed toys and tons of other goodies to indulge your playful side.

Pop into some of the countless designer stores or follow your host to one of the less-expensive shops to save some cash. Discover traditional stores, such as Kyukyodo, where the beautiful Japanese paper, cards and fans are a feast for the eyes. If you prefer, your host can leave you outside the famous Kabukiza, where you can watch one off the acts or performances at leisure. Alternatively, they can take you to one of their favorite restaurants or izakayas (a casual dining venue) so you can sample some authentic Japanese food and drinks on your own.

The possibilities are endless in Ginza and your local host will design the best experience for you and your group, all based on your interests and desired length of your adventure.

Day Two:

  • Morning Walking Tour Through Tokyo’s City Kitchen at 8 AM.

Spend your morning exploring Tsukiji Fish Market, the largest market of its kind in the world. Start by wandering through Tsukiji’s outer market brimming with vibrant food stalls and retail shops.

This is the place to be if you’re looking for the freshest and dare say, most delicious sushi breakfast one could ever hope for. With over 2,500 tons and 450 types of fish coming through the market every day, you’re bound to come across some foods and fish you’ve never seen before. Squid jerky, anyone? Or perhaps scrambled eggs on a stick? No matter what kind of unusual snacks you may encounter, Tsukiji promises to be an experience for all five senses.

Along the way, your tour guide will explain about the history of the market, all the different seafoods on offer, the legendary tuna auction (not included in the tour) and what a typical day is like for all the vendors who work inside the inner markets. You’ll stop to sample a couple of fresh foods, and you’re free to try any additional snacks at your own expense that may catch your eye or make you drool. Of course, it can be difficult to know where to start so your guide will point out some recommendations as well.

Once you’re finished snacking, you’ll make your way to a nearby sake shop for a tasting and be introduced to Japan’s beloved beverage of choice. Learn how to taste the difference between different sakes and about the role it has played in Japanese culture. Be sure to make your favorite known. As tour groups are prohibited from entering the inner markets, you’ll be left at the door to Tsukiji’s inner markets, where you can go explore on your own and watch the wholesale vendors in action.

Watch your step because things can “get a little fishy” as you carefully maneuver through the market’s chaotic, narrow and wet streets. Though visitors are not allowed to take photos inside the inner market, you won’t forget this extraordinary experience. But before you go off on your own, don’t forget to ask your local guide for tips on where else to visit during your stay in Tokyo.

  • Watch professional team training at 3 PM

Possible teams are F.C. Tokyo, Tokyo Verdy or FC Machida Zelvia.

Day Three:

  • Tokyo Temples & Shrines Morning Tour at 9 AM.

Drive by Tokyo’s most renowned temples, shrines, and palaces, and explore the lovely Asakusa district on a 4-hour morning bus tour. Following a pick-up at your hotel, or meet at Hamamatsucho Bus Terminal, you will drive to the tranquil Meiji Jingu Shrine, dedicated to the first emperor of modern Japan, Emperor Meiji.

Continue past the National Diet Building, home to both houses of the Japanese parliament, on your way to Imperial Palace East Garden, site of the original Edo Castle. Get off to stoll through the inner garden of Imperial Palace East Garden (the only part of the grounds open to the public) and admire the moats, lawns, and stunning colors of Japanese trees.

Then, continue to Senso-ji Temple in Asakusa, one of Tokyo’s favorite entertainment districts. Founded in 628 AD, the Buddhist Senso-ji Temple is Tokyo’s oldest temple and the focus of the city’s largest Shinto festival. You will also get time to browse the shop-lined promenade of Nakamise-dori, before exploring the upscale Ginza shopping district, known for its boutique stores, and flagship shops of designer brands, such as Gucci and Christian Dior.

The tour ends here, so you can carry on shopping on your own, or relax in one of Ginza’s luxury restaurants or trendy coffeeshops.

  •  Tour of Ajinomoto Stadium (National Stadium) at 3 PM.

Day Four:

  • Watch a professional football match*

Saturday only depending on league schedule*.

Day Five:

  • Check-out of hotel and shuttle transportation to Tokyo International Airport.
